Patna, Oct 9 (IANS) Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of protecting BJP leaders facing serious corruption charges, including Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, who has been accused of possessing fake educational certificates.
Addressing a press conference at Sadaqat Ashram in Patna, Gehlot said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided that no matter how serious are the corruption allegations against his party leaders and ministers, he will not seek their resignation.
He said, “In Bihar, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is directly accused of using a fake degree. We have heard that he has obtained it from California Public University. I do not know the truth about it, but if there is such an allegation, then he should answer it.”
Gehlot further alleged that another Bihar Cabinet minister was booked in the fake medicine case, yet no action was taken.
He also hit out at the poor state of healthcare in Bihar and said, “A large number of women and children in Bihar are suffering from anaemia, and the healthcare system is crumbling. About 60 per cent of the posts in government hospitals are vacant, and there is an acute shortage of doctors. When I was the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, we made MRI tests free, provided health insurance up to Rs 25 lakh and launched many welfare schemes in health.” Area.”
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, who was present at the press conference, expressed concern over the large-scale migration from Bihar.
He said, “Migration is one of the biggest issues in Bihar. Many youth are leaving the state to earn livelihood. This cannot be the future of Bihar. The future lies in industrialization, agricultural development, urbanization and improvement in health and education.”
Ramesh also cited the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report published in July 2025, in which he claimed to have uncovered a scam worth Rs 71,000 crore in ten departments of the Bihar government.
“This is not Congress’ data – it is from the CAG report presented in the Bihar Assembly,” he said, alleging that the so-called “double engine government” was being run “not from Patna, but remotely from New Delhi”.
Former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, Rajesh Ram, Shakeel Ahmed Khan, Madan Mohan Jha and other leaders were present during the press conference.
He has also launched a book named ’20 Saal Vinashak’ to target the Nitish Kumar government.
