Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has created history by becoming the most expensive overseas player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after Kolkata Knight Riders secured his services for the 2026 season in Tuesday’s auction.
The 26-year-old was bought for 252 million Indian rupees ($2.77 million) after an intense bidding war with Chennai Super Kings.
Kolkata, which has won the IPL three times, ultimately won, while Green was initially registered as a batsman due to an administrative error, which he blamed on his manager.
This record-breaking amount puts Green as the third-most expensive player in IPL history behind Indian internationals Rishabh Pant (Rs 270 million) and Shreyas Iyer (Rs 267.5 million).
Green, who previously played for Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore, missed the 2025 season while recovering from back surgery.
