Ashes fifth test betting tips

  • Result: Australia wins – 1 point win @ 7/10 (Quinn Bate)
  • Australia’s top batsman: Steve Smith wins by 2 runs @ 10/3 (Bet365)
  • Australia’s top bowlers: Scott Boland wins by 3 runs @ 9/4 (coral)
  • England’s top batsman: Joe Root wins by 1 run@(Betway)
  • England’s top bowler: Josh Tongue wins by 1 @ 10/1 (Bette MGM)

So, it was possible at that time! Yes, as predicted, England got a win at the MCG and I think it was a win for them and at least gave those of us who were there something to cheer about after what had gone before.

Having witnessed that match first-hand, the joy of seeing Ben Stokes’ side succeed was tempered by a sense of what could have been and worries about the future of the format.

These are debates for other days, but first, as we do after every game in the Ashes series, let’s review my betting predictions for the previous game.

If you followed all six of the choices I made, congratulations because you will definitely be profitable again.

The main reason for this margin is that I’m betting on Josh Tongue to win the Man of the Match award. Although we only won by 0.5 points, the SP was 25/1! I hope you can understand that and, of course, the suggestion that he will become England’s top bowler. When I wrote about him he was priced at 18/1 and I suggested a 1 point win.

He completed this on March 1st, so again I hope you’ll be here early. In the bargain, I was somewhat fancied that England would get a goal back, and they were a 1-point bet at 9/4 success.

I’m kicking myself, for the first three Tests I thought Harry Brooke was going to be England’s top batsman, but I ditched him in favor of, yes, you guessed it, Joe Root.

Before you think I slapped the back too much, I’m going to lose 2 runs for this, plus Mitch Starc becomes Australia’s top bowler (who just missed out) and Steve Smith becomes the top home batsman.

Overall, a £1 bet will return you £14.25 in SP (or £29.25 if you lock in Josh Tongue’s 18/1 as the top bowler early), so it’s a very Merry Christmas.

Fifth Ashes Test betting tips: Australia set to end on a high note in Sydney

For me, this is the most unpredictable of the five games. The SCG is the venue for England’s numerous Test wins in Australia, 22 of them to be exact. The most recent was during their last winning away trip, back in 2010/11.

Australia have recorded 27 wins in Sydney, with the last eight draws coming four years ago. Draws are not yet in the current English vocabulary and, in my opinion, remain the least likely outcome.

At the time of writing, photos from the SCG suggest it will be another green seamer, as was the case in Melbourne. However, my mole was still there and seemed very confident, it was all a red herring and when the first pitch was pitched the pitch was going to look different and have a lot less grass on it.

Remember, Cricket Australia lost around $10 million when the MCG match only lasted two days, and common sense would suggest they would want the game to last to try to make up for some of the deficit.

That could bring more spin, perhaps more than at any point in this series, and for Australia it could mean recalling Todd Murphy, whom England will certainly try to attack. The flip side is that he can also pick up wickets.

The tourists did not play the role of frontline spinners throughout the series and relied on part-timers Will Jacks and Joe Root to see them through when needed. If there is a Test where they could end up playing Shoaib Bashir, then this could be it.

Spin has a good record on the field, with Shane Warne, Stuart McGill and the injured Nathan Lyon being three of the four leading Test wicket-takers here. While that’s noted, one look at Murphy’s record shows he doesn’t belong at that level.

The way this series has gone, I can’t see Bashir getting the nod, I think they will rely on seamers, Jacks and Root to play again to help. Matthew Potts has had to wait for his Test return, but Jofra Archer and Mark Wood have returned home, while Gus Atkinson, the latest to suffer a hamstring strain, looks certain to get the nod.

He is a very good bowler, although not as fast as his Durham team-mates Brendan Kass or Josh Tongue, but he will keep nagging and picking up wickets. However, I again did the main damage for England with Tongue.

As a young player in the prime of his life, he became the first England player since Dean Headley in 1998 to be named Australia’s Player of the Match, and he was once again seen as playing a major role.

You may recall that my series scoreline prediction was 3-2 for Australia, which is still possible. However, if this series has taught us anything, it’s that England’s ability to win longer games against their opponents is questionable (they managed to get to day five in Adelaide but still lost that game at around 2.15pm).

With the green tint of this pitch likely to disappear completely by the start of the match, I think the hosts will dominate again, although you’ll notice I’m less confident about this than in any of the previous four games.

Pat Cummins was again absent, but both Scott Boland and Michael Nether took wickets, while Mitchell Starc had a fine series. I’m backing Australia to win at the SCG even though they have the best odds Best Betting Sites.

Fifth Ashes Test prediction: Smith arrives in Sydney

For this one, I stick with Steve Smith. He didn’t do well for us in Melbourne, but this is his home ground and he has scored nearly 1,100 Test runs at 64.47 here alone, including 4 hundred and seven fifties in just 19 innings.

Even though he hasn’t been at his best in the series, he’s definitely going to do something for me. The price is 10/3 cricket betting sites For a player with such a great record at the SCG, this looks good.

Australia’s top batsman: Steve Smith wins by 2 runs @ 10/3 (Bet365)

Ashes betting tips: Boland torments England again

Mitchell Starc has done us a favor or two in this series, but historically this has been his worst performance of the five venues in this series. Instead, I’m with Scott Boland.

On my trip to watch the third and fourth Tests, I was able to watch Bolan from both sides and even almost straight up. His run-up distance isn’t short, but nonetheless it’s a precise, economical approach to sprinting.

I’ve been impressed with his consistency on a pitch he’s familiar with. England supporters will remember his devastating debut performance of 6-7 on this ground during the last Ashes tour, and his maiden ten-wicket haul against a very good Indian team in Test cricket last January.

Ashes fifth Test prediction: Can Root end tour on a high note?

He struggled again on this tour but also scored his first hundred in Australia. The test average suffered as a result, falling below 51 for the first time in some time.

However, I still support the former England captain. This will most likely be his last tour in Australia. Root turned 35 earlier this week and will be 39 by the time the sides next face Australia. Although he did score his first ton in Australia in the second Test, he still has not cracked three figures in the red-ball game and has only cracked fifty on the tour.

A good bat trajectory allows him to flourish and end with a solid series. Odds of 2/1 on him to top score for England in the first innings Betting Apps.

England’s top batsman: Joe Root wins by 1 run @ 2/1 (Betway)

Ashes fifth Test prediction: Outstanding Tongue thrives again

As mentioned earlier, I’m sticking with Nottinghamshire’s fast bowlers delivering the goods again here. In two Tests he has done nothing but strengthen his position as England’s leading Test fast bowler for years to come.

England’s top bowler: Josh Tongue wins by 1 @ 10/1 (Bette MGM)
