Kyiv:
President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed on Saturday that Ukraine would defeat Russia as the war enters its third year.
“We have been fighting for 730 days. We will win on the greatest day of our lives,” Zelensky said at an open-air anniversary event in Kiev.
Zelensky said: “Any normal person wants the war to end. But none of us will allow Ukraine to end.” He emphasized that the war must end “on our terms” and achieve a “just” peace.
He spoke alongside the prime ministers of Canada, Italy and Belgium, as well as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who came to Kiev to mark the second anniversary of the Russian invasion.
Zelensky embraced the leader and presented medals to soldiers at a ceremony at Kiev’s Gostromel Airport, a target on the first day of Russia’s invasion.
“Two years ago, we were here fighting enemy landing forces; two years later, we were here meeting our friends and partners,” the president said.
