Thiruvananthapuram, 30 September (IANS) while General Secretary of Nair Service Society (NSS) G. Protests against Sukumaran Nair are intensifying in Kerala, political parties navigated the issue with strategic caution.
Posters, boards and demonstrations have been revealed in several districts following Nair’s recent comments at the Sabarimala temple, which were widely interpreted to the CPI (M) -T Democratic Front (LDF) government.
The dispute began last week when Nair praised the government for changing its stand on the issue of Sabarimala temple.
For the Congress, it was seen as a violation of the long -held policy of NSS to maintain equal distance from both political fronts.
While Nair clarified that his comments reflected the NSS perspective only on Sabarimala and not a political support, CPI (M) celebrated the comment, while the Congress included the potential decline.
Senior Congress leaders have run to connect with Nair directly.
Veteran leader PJ Kurien and Lok Saba MP Kodikunil Suresh have already met him, followed by senior MLA Thiruvanchor Radhakrishnan on Tuesday.
The purpose of their efforts is to ensure that the NSS does not disturb the electoral prospects of the Congress, the local body elections in a few weeks and the assembly elections scheduled for April-May next year.
Meanwhile, the BJP has opted for the waiting-and-looking strategy.
Although Nair community votes continue to share their share, but this is what the Congress is afraid because it will be a boon for the Left.
However, for the first time, Nair is visible to the left within the community against the alleged soft corner of Nair.
On Tuesday, a protest board appeared near Ernakulam, seeing Nair as ‘Kattappa’ as the service of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Similar protests have taken place in Pathanamthitta when local Karyogam activists reflect the rejection of Nair’s trend.
Despite the uproar, political observers note that Nair’s comment came as a morale for the ruling remaining.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a minister, IANS said that “Nair’s statement came in disguise as a blessing.
“It provides us a strong foundation before the elections”.
With dissatisfaction with the grassroots levels and dissatisfaction with political rivals, the statement of the NSS chief has provoked a rare alignment of strategy, controversy and community politics, which establishes the stage for high-dot fighting in the coming months.
