As ‘Suryavanshi Shri Ram’ inspires Modi, Sitharaman adds Ayodhya temple-like scheme in her budget

In the interim Budget 2024 presented ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise to reduce electricity bills for the poor after the Pran Pratistha ceremony at Ram Mandir in Ayodhya1 January 22nd.

Listing out the expected benefits of the rooftop solar scheme on Thursday, the Finance Minister said the Prime Minister’s “determination” to implement the scheme after the historic inauguration was leading to its implementation.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that the move was inspired by the realization that “all devotees in the world derive energy from the radiance of Lord Suryavanshi Shri Ram”.

Soon after the Pran Pratistha ceremony, Prime Minister Modi said at My determination was further strengthened that the people of India should install their own solar roof systems on the roofs of their houses. The first decision I took after returning from Ayodhya was that our government would launch the “Pradhanmantri Surydaya Yojana” “The aim is to install rooftop solar power on houses worth Rs 1 crore. This will not only reduce the electricity bills of the poor and middle class, but will also make India self-reliant in the energy sector.”

She further mentioned that the scheme is expected to not only bring savings to households but also create entrepreneurship and employment opportunities.

The finance minister added that free solar power will be provided to power distribution companies along with surplus power, saving households up to Rs 18,000 per year.
