Talk of banning firecrackers during Diwali continues in the national capital Delhi. Many people support the ban, but many say the decision is against the festival. Amidst all this, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, now the convener of the Aam Aadmi Party, has supported Delhi’s decision to ban firecrackers. Kejriwal said this was necessary to protect people from pollution.
There is no “Hindu-Muslim” aspect – Kejriwal
Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the government’s decision to ban firecrackers had nothing to do with “Hindu-Muslims”. Kejriwal said Diwali is a festival of lights and should be celebrated by lighting lamps and candles instead of bursting off firecrackers as this causes pollution. Kejriwal said in an interview with the media that we are not doing others a favor. We are doing ourselves a favor because eventually we and our children will become victims of the pollution caused by firecracker explosions.
Delhi bans setting off of all types of firecrackers
Let us tell you that in early October, the Delhi government led by CM Atishi issued an order to completely ban the manufacture, sale, storage and setting off of all types of firecrackers by January 1, 2025. The order also bans the sale and supply of firecrackers online.
Diwali Festival of Lights- Kejriwal
The BJP blamed the decision to ban firecrackers on Hindu festivals. Kejriwal said this is completely different from Hindus and Muslims. Every human breath and life matters. Kejriwal said the Supreme Court and High Court had also said that people should avoid setting off firecrackers in view of pollution. Instead, lights should be lit as Diwali is the festival of lights.
