Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest will benefit AAP elections: Atishi

Atish said the upcoming Lok Sabha polls have become an election of “people versus the BJP”.

Delhi Minister Atish on Wednesday said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest will be beneficial for AAP in the Lok Sabha polls as the party has won a lot of sympathy.

Speaking to PTI, Atishi said the Enforcement Directorate’s arrest of Arvind Kejriwal in a money laundering case related to the GST policy was an attack on democracy “unseen before” in the country’s democratic history.

“The good thing is, it’s good for our elections,” she said, adding that before Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest, the outcome of the Lok Sabha polls was a foregone conclusion as people thought the BJP would win .

“But after Kejriwal’s arrest, public sympathy for us has increased. There is only one sentiment that the BJP has gone too far. So, I think it will be good for our elections,” Atish told Press Trust of India.

She said the upcoming Lok Sabha polls have become an election of “people versus the BJP”.

“This election has become a very different kind of election. It is no longer an ‘AAP vs BJP’ or ‘Bharat India vs BJP’ election. After Kejriwal’s arrest, it is a ‘people vs BJP’ election election,” she said.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in a money laundering case related to Delhi’s excise policy and was subsequently detained by the agency till March 28.
