Itanagar, Nov 1 (IANS) Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Saturday reiterated that the state government will not tolerate any kind of corruption and action will be taken against those found guilty.
The Chief Minister was referring to the alleged misuse of government funds in the land acquisition process on the Lada to Sarli stretch of the Frontier Highway.
Speaking at a public function during the foundation stone laying ceremony of Grong Buddha Park in West Kameng district here, Khandu said he came to know about the alleged misappropriation after returning from Delhi and immediately ordered the formation of a high-level committee to investigate the allegations.
He said, “I have also directed that based on the preliminary report, all those responsible for the disturbance be suspended with immediate effect pending an independent and impartial investigation. The suspension orders will come in a day or two.”
Khandu lamented that the Frontier Highway is the result of tremendous hard work of the state government which held several meetings with the Central government and other stakeholders and some individuals are distorting the matter for their personal gains.
He said, “We have seen similar instances before and are witness to the impact of such practices on the timely completion of the project. It is unfortunate that now this Frontier Highway project, especially the stretch from Lada to Sarli, will suffer. Inquiries upon inquiries will be conducted, police will investigate and the case will be taken to court. This is very unfortunate and condemnable.”
In fact, terming it a ‘nonsense act’, Khandu assured that those found guilty will not be spared, be it a government official of any stature or a member of the public.
The Chief Minister appreciated the West Kameng administration for completing the land acquisition process for the project in a free, fair and transparent manner without any hindrance.
He also thanked the people of the district for cooperating with the administration and hoped that other districts through which the highway passes would learn from West Kameng.
Meanwhile, he congratulated the people of West Kameng, especially the Singchung area, on laying the foundation stone of Grong Buddha Park, which, he said, will become a tourist destination in the future.
The grand Buddha Park, seen as a shining example of harmonious development with spirituality, will include a magnificent Buddha statue, monastery, stupa, museum, water body, guest house, hostel block, library, cafeteria, office and welcome centre, parking area, kiosks, rest huts, gardens and courtyards.
“Once completed, it will serve as a tranquil center of faith and reflection while promoting tourism, local livelihoods and cultural preservation in the area,” he said.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister launched three new apps, one of which has been created by the West Kameng district administration and two by the district police.
These are ‘Yakatopia App’ to provide digital platform to ease tourism, ‘Chu-Mantar App’ to sensitize children about ‘Good Touch-Bad Touch’ and ‘Yoddhabandhu App’ to provide tele-counselling and awareness to youth affected by substance abuse.
He also inaugurated a new police station at Singchun, new building of Bhalukpong Police State, Government Higher Secondary School, a new academic block at Singchun and three road projects.
The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of 21 new projects in the district and expressed hope that all the 21 projects would be completed on time without compromising on quality.
Khandu was joined by Home Minister Mama Natung, host Tenzin Nyima Glo, along with all five MLAs from Tawang and West Kameng.
