Arne Slott feels liverpool From “moved forward”. mohammed salah The controversy and the expectation that the player’s involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations will further heat up the situation.
Salah caused a crisis at the club a fortnight ago with an explosive interview in which he claimed, among other things, that he had been made a scapegoat because of his poor form.
As a result he was removed for a Champions League game at Inter Milan but, after talks with manager Slott, returned as a substitute in the previous week Premier League Victory over Brighton.
The 33-year-old is now on international duty with Egypt for possibly another month.
Slot said: “As I said last week, actions speak louder than words and we moved on. He was in the team and he was the first replacement I made.
“But now he’s in the Afcon, playing big games for himself and his country, so I think it’s fair for him, and also for us because we’re going to play some important games, all the focus there is on him and I shouldn’t be distracted by saying things about his time at Liverpool.
“After the Leeds interview we’ve gone ahead and he’s played against Brighton. Now he’s there, so talking about Tottenham and other games is fair for his country, for him and for us.”
Liverpool will give Dominik Szoboszlai a fitness test ahead of the trip to Spurs on Saturday after the Hungarian injured his ankle at the end of the Brighton game.
Slott said: “If the player feels comfortable playing and did all the things he was supposed to do, he will start.
“Dom has been a starter for me for the year and a half that I have been here and looking at the performances he has performed, if he gets fully fit he will be a starter tomorrow.”
Forward Cody Gakpo and defender Joe Gomez have both been sidelined with muscular problems, but Jeremy Frimpong is back in contention after being sidelined for almost two months and Connor Bradley has returned from suspension.
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last five games in all competitions after nine defeats in their last 12 games.
Slot hopes that the situation has been changed and better results will bring more confidence.
The Dutchman said: “I think winning always gives a good feeling and a good feeling for a team that had a lot of changes during the summer.
“The league table – the first 12, 13, 14, 15 teams are so close to each other that winning or losing doesn’t matter much, with one exception, although (Manchester) City is now getting closer to Arsenal, but Arsenal are far away from us.
“I think the main thing for us is to build on what we’ve been achieving in the last five games.”
