New Delhi, Oct 20 (IANS) Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited forward posts in the central sector of the LAC in Uttarakhand to assess the operational situation, motivate troops and strengthen civil-military relations in the strategically important area.
During the visit, the Army Chief reviewed the formations deployed in the high altitude areas of Pithoragarh and nearby forward posts.
According to officials, General Dwivedi received “briefing on ongoing capability enhancement including advanced surveillance systems, specialist mobility platforms, integration of next generation technologies, optimization of reconnaissance assets and coordination with allied security agencies”.
He appreciated the professionalism, discipline, tactical agility and innovative use of new equipment in challenging terrain.
Interacting with the personnel deployed in remote areas, General Dwivedi praised their resilience, courage and steadfast devotion to duty in extreme climatic conditions and rough terrain.
He reaffirmed the Army’s full preparedness to meet emerging security challenges while invoking the core ethos of “Service Before Self”.
The Army Chief also interacted with the veterans and local communities, acknowledged their sacrifices and extended warm Diwali wishes to all ranks and their families.
Emphasizing the strategic importance of the Kumaon region, especially as the gateway to the border areas with Nepal and China, the Army Chief appreciated the local patriotism and resilience.
He underlined that the Indian Army in Kumaon symbolizes “strength with compassion”, protecting the borders while empowering the border communities.
“General Dwivedi also mentioned the glorious heritage of the Kumaon Regiment and reviewed the initiatives under Operation Sadbhavna and Vibrant Village Programme, which include tent-based homestays in Garbyang and Kalapani, road infrastructure, hybrid power systems, medical camps and agricultural support through polyhouses,” the officer said.
