Other major agenda items include measures to enhance interoperability between the three services and a review of the implementation of Mission Sudarshan Chakra, reports Indian Express.
This conference is taking place at a time when the first batch of Agniveers is completing their four-year tenure next year. Therefore, their potential retention is an important focus of discussion.
This will be the first Army Commanders Conference after Operation Sindoor in May. The meeting serves as a platform for the top leadership of the Army to assess the overall security environment and discuss key operational priorities to address emerging challenges.
With the growing number of veterans, the Army is also looking for ways to leverage their experience more effectively. At present, veterans are largely employed in roles in the Army Welfare Education Society and Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) Polyclinics. However, consideration is being given to expanding their participation in various structures. Personnel and welfare issues of serving soldiers are also expected to figure in the discussion, the report said.
Strengthening jointness between the Army, Navy and Air Force will be another major theme.
In September, a number of initiatives were discussed at the Joint Commanders Conference held in Kolkata, which was attended by the Prime Minister. At that meeting, the government announced major integration measures such as the establishment of three joint military stations and merging the education branches of the Army, Navy and Air Force into a single tri-service education corps.
In Jaisalmer, the Army Commander will also review operational preparedness – including repair and replacement of damaged equipment, emergency procurement of critical stores and storage of ammunition for key weapon systems.
The conference will also assess the progress of Mission Sudarshan Chakra, which involves coordination with multiple services and stakeholders, the report said.
The Jaisalmer conference marks the second phase of the Army Commanders’ Conference for this year; The first phase was held in New Delhi earlier this month.
