Competing against nature is perhaps the most challenging task professional athletes face. Whether it’s climbing hills or mountain biking or triathlon, athletes face the toughest obstacles and even conquer them with gay abandon. Indian professional mountaineer Arjun Vajpayee, trained at the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering in Uttarkashi, revealed how he managed to climb some of the highest mountains in the world in a special episode of the ‘Fit India Champions’ podcast series released on Saturday. The complete episode can be seen here.

The ‘Fit India Champions’ podcast series aims to spread the good word on wellness through conversations with athletes and health influencers who are serving as catalysts for change. The 10-episode series is in partnership with GOQii, a leading stakeholder in the fitness sector that proactively manages health through its digital and multimedia technology. The episodes are streamed live on digital platforms.

Arjun Vajpayee is third in the list of celebrity athletes who have participated in the podcast hosted by Mrs. Ekta Vishnoi, Deputy Director General of Sports Authority of India and Director of Fit India Mission. The episode starts with para archer Sheetal Devi. World and Tokyo 2020 javelin throw champion Neeraj Chopra was second on the list.

Thirty-year-old Arjun is the youngest person in the world to climb six peaks above 8000 meters in 2018. This was no surprise for a man who climbed Mount Everest at the age of 16 in 2010! The Delhi man now wants to become the first Indian person to climb all 14 peaks above 8000 meters across the world.

Vajpayee said, “It is my dream to climb all the 14 mountains above 8000 meters and hold the flag of India high. This dream and the tunnel-vision or single-minded goal helps me to move forward despite the difficult conditions of mountaineering. “

“As climbers, we are not competing against humans. We are competing against nature. Here, you will be tested against nature’s standards. Therefore, we need to focus on both physical and mental fitness.” Our fellow climbers have died.” Vajpayee said, “Disruption happened but we kept moving forward.” “Staying on top is our single-minded goal.”

The Fit India Ambassador has been a pioneer in his field and has climbed some of the toughest Himalayan peaks like Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Manaslu and Annapurna.

Praising the Fit India initiative, the professional mountaineer said, “Fit India’s vision is something I can also relate to. Fitness has been an integral part of my life and I spend a lot of time staying fit every day.” I try to inspire the younger generation by being out there and teach the same to my children. I am very happy to be a part of this movement and thank the Honorable Prime Minister of India for starting this initiative.”
