A major accident was averted at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday (23 November). Ariana Afghan flight from Kabul landed on the departure runway at Delhi airport. Ariana Afghan flight FG 311 was cleared to land on runway 29 left (29L), but it landed on runway 29 right (29R) at 12:06 pm on 23 November. Runway 29R is used for take-off and Runway 29L is used for landing at IGI. Fortunately, there were no departing aircraft on that runway at that time.
The incident is under investigation. Indian officials will write to their counterparts in Afghanistan about this serious incident.
