A man and his dog were shot and killed Georgia An argument between two strangers in the park escalated and turned deadly, police said.
Todd Alexander Stalcup, 52, is facing multiple felony murder charges in the death of 70-year-old Terry Wayne Lowden of Gainesville, according to . Hall County Sheriff’s Office.
The shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Ga. Simpson Park, near 53/Dawsonville Highway, when an argument between people walking their dogs escalated and turned into a shooting.
Deputies responded to reports of shots fired and found Louden critically injured. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he later died. Their dog also died, police said.
Authorities say during the argument Stallcup pulled out a handgun, shot Loden’s dog and then shot Loden. It is unclear what led to the dispute.
Stallcup initially remained in the park but left in his SUV while deputies responded. He was stopped and taken into custody about 15 minutes later as he was leaving the area, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Stallcup, who was living in the Gainesville area, has been charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
He is being held in the Hall County Jail without bond.
This matter is under investigation.
