Approved for MPHRC, Principal Secretary named MP Vidhan Sabha, no consensus on others

Bhopal, September 29 (IANS) held an important meeting on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav about the appointment of Chairman and members of Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC).

Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar and Leader of Opposition (LOP) Umang Sigar, along with other members of the committee, were present at the meeting held at the Chief Minister’s official residence in Bhopal.

The committee was to approve the name of a chairman and two members; However, the appointment of only one member was approved as the consensus could not be reached on the names of others, sources told IANS.

A source said, “The name of Awadhesh Pratap Singh, Principal Secretary, Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, has been approved for the post of one member of the State Human Rights Commission. The appointment of two other members (chairpersons and one member) has been stopped,” a source said.

In particular, Awadhesh Pratap Singh is ready to retire from service till 30 September.

Congress MLA and LOP, Umang Sigar in the state assembly told the media persons that they questioned the lack of transparency in the process for selection of members of SHCR.

He said, “The Human Rights Commission is a temple of justice, and its foundation is laid in our constitution. When the government and other institutions fail to provide justice, the Commission is the final hope for the people at the time. Therefore, I demanded that an unqualified person should not be appointed as a member,” he said.

This development has taken place as the tenure of the tenure of the tenure of Rajiv Tandon, the acting president of the Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC).

Allegedly, more than 4,500 complaints are pending before the MP Human Rights Commission.

Manohar as the chairman of MphrC ended after the tenure of Mamatani, no one was appointed in his place. Rajiv Tandon, a member of the commission, was appointed as its acting chairman.
