The Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset, which marks the company’s earliest product line in nearly ten years, has been quite popular since going on pre-order. And, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has reportedly sold more than 1,60,000-1,80,000 units of the headset.

Per Kuo, high demand for the Vision Pro has resulted in shipping dates being extended for new orders, with delivery times for all models now estimated to be 5-7 weeks away from the February 2 launch date. He said, “As anticipated, the Vision Pro sold out immediately after pre-orders opened, with shipping times extending to 5-7 weeks for all models.”

We can also see scalpers listing the Vision Pro on eBay at double the retail price. This observation further reinforces the notion that the headset is popular, and people may pay more than the retail price to get the headset at or near launch.

That said, this is not the first time that Apple products have sold out rapidly upon launch. We’ve seen this happen with iPhones before. People pre-order them immediately, and then they have to wait months for shipping. This is especially true for the ‘Pro Max’ models. But according to Kuo, what’s happening with the Vision Pro is a little different. “However, unlike the Vision Pro, iPhone models typically see a steady increase in shipping times 24 to 48 hours after pre-orders open, indicating that demand continues to grow even after initial sales,” he said. .

There is speculation that Apple’s partners, such as Luxshare, will be working overtime to manufacture enough Vision Pro units to meet demand, as producing approximately 500,000 units should not be a significant challenge. However, to accurately evaluate any changes in demand, it is equally important to assess the level of continued interest in the product after the initial sell-off, Kuo concluded.
