Apple unveils M4-powered iPad Pro, will be called an ‘AI-powered device’: Report

Apple is reportedly planning to skip the M3-chipset for the new iPad Pro and opt for the upcoming artificial intelligence (AI)-powered M4 instead. It’s not even been a year since the Cupertino-based tech giant introduced the M3 family of chipsets and added it to its iMac, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro. However, a report claims that the company may end its chipset journey in favor of the M4 chipset with a new more powerful Neural Engine that will strengthen its AI vision.

according to a report Apple may introduce an M4-powered iPad Pro at its May 7 ‘Let Loose’ event, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said on his Power On newsletter. The report further suggests that the unannounced processor may be equipped with a new Neural Engine that will give it enough power to run calculations for AI features. It is said that the company will introduce this device as its “first truly AI-powered device”.

It is believed that the new iPad Pro will get a significant upgrade this year. It is rumored to have an OLED display, thin bezels, and be available in “glossy and matte screen versions.” It may also have MagSafe wireless charging support. As for optics, it may get a new rear camera module and a landscape-oriented front camera. The Apple event is also expected to unveil a new Apple Pencil that will likely be designed as an accessory for the iPad Pro.

The inclusion of the chipset won’t end on the iPad Pro. An earlier report highlighted that Apple may be revamping its entire Mac lineup, starting with the Mac mini with the M4 chipset. The model is expected to launch in late 2024 or early 2025. The tech giant may introduce other Mac models with the M4 chip in 2025 and beyond. Gurman also highlighted that starting with the iPad Pro, Apple could introduce all of its products as AI devices.

Gurman further revealed that Apple may also brand the A18 chipset, which is expected to come in iPhone 16 Pro models, as AI-powered. This claim will also be corroborated by multiple reports highlighting the company’s plans to introduce AI features through iOS 18. Based on reports, it appears that the Cupertino-based company is gearing up to go all-in on the AI ​​race.
