According to a recent report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s upcoming iOS 18 will introduce a series of new artificial intelligence features that do not rely on cloud servers. The move signals Apple’s commitment to enhancing user privacy and device performance by handling artificial intelligence tasks directly on the device.

Gurman revealed in his Power On newsletter that the initial set of AI features in iOS 18 will run entirely on-device, without the need for cloud processing. This reportedly includes large language models to support new AI capabilities macro rumors.

Artificial Intelligence Collaborative Partnership

While Apple plans to retain some cloud-based AI capabilities by working with providers like Google’s Gemini, the company aims to prioritize on-device processing of its AI capabilities. Discussions have reportedly been held with tech giants such as Google, OpenAI and China’s Baidu about potential generative AI partners.

While iOS 18 may not include Apple’s own ChatGPT-like chatbot, it’s still uncertain whether Gemini or other chatbots will be integrated directly into the operating system. Analysts say Apple is actively investing in artificial intelligence servers, hinting at the possibility of introducing more cloud-based in-house AI capabilities in the future.
