Apple CEO Tim Cook to increase spending on Vietnamese suppliers during visit – details

Apple CEO Tim Cook will announce during a visit to Hanoi that the company will increase its commitment to Vietnam by an undisclosed amount.

Apple said in a statement that in addition to supporting local school clean water programs, the company will increase spending on suppliers in Vietnam. Apple has spent nearly VND400 trillion ($16 billion) in the country through its supply chain partners since 2019, the company said.

No details were provided about the increased spending on suppliers.

Apple CEO Tim Cook visits Hanoi

Cook arrived in the capital Hanoi on Monday morning for a two-day visit where he will meet with Vietnamese programmers and content creators, news website VnExpress reported without citing sources.

The number of companies assembling Apple products in Vietnam has quadrupled in the past decade.

Cook posted a photo on X (formerly Twitter) of himself drinking egg coffee with a Vietnamese singer at Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi.

Cook’s visit comes as more than 60 human rights and environmental groups called on the Cupertino, California-based company to speak out against Vietnam’s detention of climate activists.
