Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday intensified its ongoing crackdown against terrorist operatives in various areas of Jammu, targeting local terrorists and their overground workers (OGWs) operating from Pakistan, officials said.

He said that a large-scale search and cordon operation is going on at dozens of places in Ramban, Kishtwar, Doda, Kathua, Reasi, Poonch and Rajouri districts.

Several suspicious persons were called for questioning amid a massive anti-terrorist operation in Jammu’s Doda district on Saturday.

The search was intensified as intelligence reports suggested that terrorists operating in the highlands were looking for safe havens in the plains for the winter.

A police spokesperson said the police continued their efforts to strengthen the security grid and maintain peace and launched a massive cordon and search operation at several places in Banihal and Gool areas of Ramban district.

The operation was carried out in a well-coordinated manner under the close supervision of Ramban Senior Superintendent of Police Arun Gupta and was aimed at detecting suspicious activities of relatives of indigenous people of Jammu and Kashmir operating from Pakistan and verifying the history of the suspected persons and tightening security around sensitive areas, the spokesperson said.

He said that during the operation, houses of relatives and known associates of JK-based terrorists and OGWs operating from Pakistan were searched.

The spokesperson said police teams thoroughly inspected several premises to ensure that no anti-national or illegal activities were being carried out or supported.

He said the operation was conducted by joint teams of police, army, CRPF and SOG units along with duty magistrates covering various sensitive areas across the district.

The spokesperson said the operation was conducted in a systematic manner without causing any inconvenience to the general public.

He said such operations are a part of ongoing preventive and intelligence-based measures to ensure that peace and stability is maintained in the region.

The spokesperson said the police is committed to neutralizing any anti-national network and ensuring the safety of all citizens. The spokesperson requested the public at large to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and share any valuable information regarding suspicious activities or persons in their areas.

He assured that the identity of those giving information will be kept confidential.

In Kishtwar, the spokesperson said raids were conducted at several places in Kishtwar, Chatru and Marwah subdivisions.

He said security forces raided 25 houses across Doda, each of which belonged to families with at least one member currently camping in PoK.

During the search, police teams seized several mobile phones and other material to detect evidence of any anti-national activities.
