Anthony Joshua He has posted his first public update since being injured in a fatal car accident in Nigeria that tragically killed two of his friends and team members.

“AJ” has returned to the UK ahead of the funerals of friends Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele. Sina Gami served as a strength and conditioning coach and Latif Ratz Ayodele was also part of his training team.

Two persons died after their vehicle collided with a stationary truck on a major road near Lagos on Monday.

Joshua was in severe pain after being pulled from the car and was treated in hospital and released on Wednesday.

The former two-time world heavyweight champion now posted two photos on Instagram on Sunday with the caption: “My brother’s keeper.”

Joshua can be seen sitting next to his mother and three other women, one of whom is holding a photo of Gami.

The Ogun State Police Command on Friday confirmed that Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, who was driving the car with Joshua, has been charged at the Sagamu Magistrate Court over the crash.

Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps said the cause of the accident was speeding and an attempt to overtake, but the Ogun state police chief later told ESPN that a tire on Joshua’s vehicle burst, causing the driver to lose control and “swerve into a stationary truck parked on the roadside.”

Joshua is scheduled to fight again in February, likely in Saudi Arabia, with Riyadh boss Turki Alalshikh proposing a fight in 2026 against long-term British rival Tyson Fury.

Fury has confirmed his return to the ring after retiring in 2024 after back-to-back wins over former undisputed heavyweight champion Alexander Usyk (and two wins over Joshua).

Fury posted on Instagram: “2026 is that year. Mac is back. Been away for a while but I’m back now, 37 and still boxing. There’s nothing better than punching a man in the face and getting paid to do it.”

Fury later shared a video interview involving Joshua from earlier this year, adding: “Thoughts and prayers are with AJ and the bereaved family.”
