Eddie Hearn pays tribute to Anthony Joshua’s two friends

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has paid tribute to Anthony Joshua’s friends Sina Gami and Latif “Lazi” Ayodele, who died in a car crash in Nigeria.

Gami and Ayodele were killed when the vehicle they were traveling in with Joshua rammed into a stationary truck on a major road near Lagos on Monday.

British heavyweight boxing champion Joshua was injured but is in stable condition and conscious in hospital, according to the Ogun State Government.

Hearn, who has promoted Joshua, 36, since he turned pro after winning gold at the 2012 London Olympics, posted on Instagram: “RIP Latz and Sina. Your energy and loyalty will be sorely missed along with so many other great qualities.”

“Prayers for strength and guidance to all their family, friends and of course AJ during this very difficult time.”

He added: “Anthony Joshua and Sina are friends. They work together but were just friends at first. Even on this trip, he didn’t want him to be alone, so he went with him.”

Joshua discharged from Nigerian hospital after car crash

Anthony Joshua has been hospitalized after a car crash in Nigeria that killed two of his friends, authorities said.

Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele were killed on Monday when the vehicle they were traveling in with Joshua crashed into a stationary truck on a main road near Lagos.

British heavyweight boxer Joshua was injured but was discharged from hospital on Wednesday, Lagos State Information Commissioner Gbenga Omotoso said.

Omotoso released a joint statement with Ogun State on

“Anthony and his mother paid their last respects to his two deceased friends this afternoon at a funeral parlor in Lagos as they prepare for their repatriation later this evening,” the statement said.

Anthony Joshua’s promotional company Matchroom and his agency 258 MGT released a joint statement on Monday night, which read: “We are deeply saddened to confirm the tragic deaths of two close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele.
