Andrew Malkinson vowed to continue the fight to improve after 17 years after being wrongly jailed

Under the 2014 antisocial behavior, crime and policing Act, payment is provided only to those who can prove innocence beyond a proper doubt.

The Ministry of Justice showed that only 6.5% of the people applying for compensation due to the abortion of justice between April 2016 and March 2024 were awarded payment. Out of 591 people applying, 39 were compensated.

In a statement in February, advocate Toby Wilton welcomed the payment, but said that a cap of £ 1 million should be removed on payment of compensation.
