Senior all-rounder Andre Russell on Thursday backed Kolkata Knight Riders head coach Chandrakant Pandit, with former KKR all-rounder David Weiss calling Pandit’s coaching style “aggressive”. Wiese, who now plays for Namibia, claimed that many foreign players on KKR’s roster were frustrated with Pandit’s tough style during last year’s IPL. However, Jamaica Russell, an integral part of KKR’s core group, sounds something different. “We have been working with him since last year. I think when you work with a coach for the first time, you have to make sure you adapt to their philosophy. There have to be rules. We are professionals. So, we are not complaining,” La Serge said at the pre-match press conference.
“I try to do the best for this team. He’s done a great job and we’re back,” he added.
Pandit, known for his strict discipline, took over as KKR coach ahead of IPL 2022 after Brendan McCullum accepted the England head coaching job.
“He (Pandit) is considered a very aggressive coach in India. He is a very strict, very disciplined person.
“Sometimes, in franchise cricket, when you have overseas players and they’re playing around the world, they don’t need anyone to tell them how they need to perform, what they need to wear and what they need to do at the time.
“So, it’s been tough,” Weiss said recently on the podcast “Killers for Hire: A Year in the Life of a Franchise Cricketer.”
