Amaravati, October 21 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday announced compensation for the family of Lakshmi Naidu, who recently died after being hit by a vehicle on the orders of a local TDP leader in Nellore district.
The Chief Minister also directed that a fast-track court be set up for speedy trial.
During a review meeting with Home Minister V. Anitha and Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta, Naidu took serious note of the incident, which has sparked a political storm.
The murder took place on October 2 at Rallapadu village in Gudaluru mandal of Nellore district. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader Kakarla Harishchandra Prasad, 27, and his father Madhava Rao, 47, hit a motorcycle carrying 25-year-old Lakshmi Naidu and two others with their vehicle near Rallapadu. Lakshmi Naidu died on the spot, while her brother Pawan Naidu and another associate Bhargav Naidu were seriously injured.
Police have arrested Prasad and his father, who allegedly had financial disputes with Lakshmi Naidu.
Bharat Chaitanya Yuvajana (BCY) president Bode Ramachandra Yadav met Lakshmi Naidu’s family members on 18 October and provided financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh. He accused the government of failing to protect the backward communities that had voted him into power.
After the meeting on Tuesday, Home Minister Anita told media persons that the Chief Minister condemned the murder of Lakshmi Naidu and called the killing inhuman. He ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
He announced to give two acres of land and Rs 5 lakh in cash to Lakshmi Naidu’s wife as compensation. He ordered that 2 acres of land each and a fixed deposit of Rs 5 lakh be given to both the children of the victim. He also announced that the government would take responsibility for the education of children.
He also announced compensation for the injured. He announced four acres of land and Rs 5 lakh in cash for Pawan Naidu. The government will also bear the expenses of his treatment.
Bhargav Naidu will be given a compensation of Rs 3 lakh and the government will bear the expenses of his treatment.
The Chief Minister ordered that the case be transferred to a fast-track court for speedy trial. He also directed officials to appoint a special public prosecutor for the trial.
Home Minister Anita said the Chief Minister directed the officials concerned to ensure that the accused does not get bail under any circumstances and take prompt and appropriate steps to give him stringent punishment.
Anita along with Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayan had visited the village on Sunday and met the family members. He submitted his report to the Chief Minister on Tuesday.
