Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, while participating in the second season of Sadak Suraksha Abhiyaan, said that in India, at least 19 people die in road accidents “every hour”. He added that small efforts can have a big impact.

“Without empathy, nothing can be done. Our roads will not be safe until we stop having empathy for each other. One mistake can destroy an entire family and we have to be very careful,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of ‘Sadak Suraksha Abhiyaan’, actor R Madhvan pointed out that although “roads in the country have become more efficient and people have become accustomed to roads not becoming dangerous due to fast-moving vehicles, over a period of time we Need to brush up on my driving skills” to ensure safety.

Actor Gurmeet Choudhary recalls how he lost his father in a road accident about 15 years ago. “My family said helping others is my top priority, which is why I joined CPR to help others,” the actor said.

Stressing on helping people involved in road accidents, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said if we don’t help others, no one will help us.

“I have always believed that where there is a will, there is a way. I like people who get things done,” Gadkari said, adding that if people respect and obey the law, their behavior will gradually change.

“People are trying to raise awareness about road safety and change is happening,” he added.

Sadak Suraksha Abhiyaan is a public service awareness campaign in partnership with the Ministry of Roads, Transport and Highways and Save Lives Foundation to create awareness about road safety and reduce the number of preventable accidents.

The campaign aims to arouse a sense of responsibility among the masses and encourage citizens to behave responsibly on the roads.

The 2024 campaign focuses on developing empathy among drivers and aims to create a culture of respect and responsibility on the road by creating positive behavioral change by making citizens recognize the value of every life and rewarding safe driving behaviour.
