A unique incident in Uttar Pradesh has triggered a debate around the ongoing special intensive vetting exercise of voter lists, with reports claiming that the names of film actor Amitabh Bachchan and his father, late poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, appeared in the local voter list.

According to local media reports, Amitabh Bachchan’s name was registered with house number 54 in Khushipura area outside Orchha Gate of Jhansi. The entry reportedly stated that the actor had voted, and also mentioned an age inconsistent with public records.

However, when journalists visited the location, residents said they had no idea the actor was ever associated with the neighborhood. “We have seen Amitabh Bachchan only in films,” a neighbor told a local news channel.

A report in Dainik Bhaskar further states that house number 54 – mentioned next to the actor’s name – is officially registered in the name of Rajesh Kumar’s son Surendra Kumar (76). Both the names reportedly appeared at serial numbers 543 and 544 in the voter list. The situation became more unusual when officials discovered that there was a temple at the location listed as house number 54.

The development has created concern within the district administration, with officials facing questions as to how such entries appeared in the list. According to a News18 Hindi report, as the matter gained momentum, the demand for an internal investigation and accountability within the department has intensified.

Officials are expected to review the entries and verify how the discrepancies occurred during the amendment process.
