New Delhi:

Hours after Congress’ massive defeat in the Rajya Sabha elections in Himachal Pradesh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said the opposition party is falling apart and has no idea where its MLAs are going and who they are voting for. .

Mr Shah’s comments came after Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi lost to BJP’s Harsh Mahajan amid cross-voting by some ruling party MLAs in the Rajya Sabha elections in Congress-ruled Himachal Pradesh.

He also rejected the suggestion that there was a special strategy to ensure the victory of the BJP candidate.

“The Congress is falling apart. The entire alliance is falling apart. They cannot hold on to their people. They are not treating their people properly and as a result they are falling apart,” he said at an event at the News9 Global Summit. ” ,

Asked about Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu’s allegations of kidnapping of Congress MLAs, the Home Minister questioned how this was possible as the election was held inside the Assembly complex.

“Look, elections were held inside the Assembly complex. The Assembly session is going on. How can someone be kidnapped? What a childish statement this is. Is kidnapping possible from inside the Assembly these days?” He asked.

The Home Minister said that voting for the Rajya Sabha elections took place under camera surveillance.

“The Election Commission’s cameras were installed. Observers were present, their candidates were present. They are not talking about where the votes went. They are talking about MLAs (kidnapping). Your votes are gone, Your MLAs are gone and you have no idea what is happening,” he said.

Cross voting took place in Himachal Pradesh due to which the BJP candidate won.

After both the candidates were tied, Mahajan was declared the winner through draw, he got 34-34 votes.

The results made it clear that six Congress MLAs and three independent MLAs voted in favor of BJP.

At present, Congress has 40 MLAs in the 68-member Himachal Pradesh Assembly, BJP 25 while three are independent MLAs.
