Addressing a press conference, Nirupam also accused Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray of abandoning the ideals of party founder Bal Thackeray by “joining hands with the Congress and jihadi Muslims”.
Nirupam claimed, this is not acceptable to the Marathi man.
Mumbai will have a Mahayuti mayor and “definitely no Mamus or Khans”, he said.
Any attempt to do so will be foiled, Nirupam further said.
“Maharashtra Assembly norms should be applied in BMC elections,” the former MP said.
He said the seats won by the undivided Shiv Sena during the assembly elections were allotted to the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
“We hope that the same formula should be implemented in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections also,” Nirupam said.
Of the 84 former corporators of the undivided Shiv Sena, around 60-65 have joined the Shinde-led Sena and have been assured of election tickets, he said, adding that former corporators from other parties like the Congress have also joined the Sena.
“With 90-100 seats (to Shiv Sena), BJP and Shiv Sena can give a good fight,” he said.
Talks are going on between Shiv Sena-BJP to strengthen the alliance between the two parties for the BMC elections.
There are total 227 seats in BMC.
Elections for 29 municipal bodies in Maharashtra will be held on January 15.
