Jerusalem:
Israel will close schools nationwide due to security concerns, military spokesman Daniel Hagari said on Saturday, after Iran threatened to retaliate against a deadly airstrike on its consulate in Damascus.
He said in a televised statement that “due to the security situation” there would be “no educational activities” when schools start on Sunday.
The measure will last for two days, according to online army guidance.
On April 1, Iran vowed to retaliate after a presumed Israeli attack razed the Iranian consulate in Damascus to the ground, killing seven members of the Revolutionary Guards, including two generals.
U.S. President Joe Biden said on Friday he expected Iran to retaliate “sooner rather than later.”
Earlier on Saturday, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards seized a container ship “linked to the Zionist regime (Israel)” near the Strait of Hormuz, state media reported.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz has postponed a visit to Hungary and Austria that was scheduled to begin on Sunday “due to the security situation,” his spokesman said.
