Mumbai, Nov 10 (IANS) Amid the growing controversy over the Pune land deal, which involves his nephew and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s son Parth Pawar, NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar on Monday met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at his official residence.
Sources said the meeting was in connection with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) elections to be held on Wednesday.
The meeting between the two leaders lasted for 15 minutes, after which Sharad Pawar left for his office at YB Chavan Center near the ministry.
According to sources, during the meeting, many issues including MCA elections would have been discussed between Sharad Pawar and the Chief Minister.
After the meeting, Pawar called the panel contesting the MCA elections and sources said some candidates would be asked to withdraw their nominations.
Although Fadnavis has not deputed his panel, their support is likely to be crucial in the MCA elections.
Monday’s meeting comes after Sharad Pawar on Saturday, in his reaction to the Pune land deal controversy involving Amedia Enterprises LLP linked to Deputy CM Ajit Pawar’s son Parth Pawar, had said that Chief Minister Fadnavis has called it a serious issue and hence an investigation should be conducted into the matter and the real picture should be presented before the people.
The NCP-SP chief said, “I cannot say anything about this. But the Chief Minister has called it a serious matter and hence an investigation should be conducted in this matter and the real picture should be presented before the society.”
He said, “The state government has formed an inquiry committee on this. Therefore, it has to be seen what comes out from the report of this committee.”
On Sunday, Ajit Pawar defended his son and blamed the sub-registrar who registered the sale deed.
The Deputy CM also said that the facts will emerge from the investigation ordered by Chief Minister Fadnavis.
This land was purchased by Amedia Enterprises LLP, in which Parth Pawar has 99 percent stake.
The Maharashtra Revenue Department has suspended sub-registrar Ravindra Taru for alleged irregularities in the registration process of 44 acres of Mahar Watan land, the market value of which is reportedly over Rs 1,800 crore.
Taru is also accused of waiving stamp duty of Rs 21 crore on a land deal worth Rs 300 crore.
Police have booked several people, including Parth Pawar’s aide Digvijay Patil and Sheetal Tejwani, in connection with the alleged land scam.
