Amid growing problem with online content, X bans over 200,000 Indian accounts for policy violations

In a recent disclosure, Elon Musk’s X released its monthly compliance report, revealing its stringent actions against policy violators in India. The company took a decisive stance and banned more than 213,000 accounts nationwide between February 26 and March 25. These suspensions stem primarily from violations related to the promotion of child sexual exploitation, distribution of non-consensual nudity, and support of terrorism on the platform.

Strengthen measures to combat harmful content

The report outlines a significant number of 212,627 accounts that were flagged and banned during the stipulated time period for being involved in spreading illegal and harmful content. Additionally, X took action against 1,235 accounts deemed to be promoting terrorism in India.

“The platform has a long history of taking steps to combat child sexual exploitation and terrorism.

In response to these alarming trends, the report highlights X’s strong commitment to reducing incidents of child sexual exploitation and terrorism. It firmly states the platform’s zero-tolerance policy for any content (whether media, text, illustrations or computer-generated images) that promotes or promotes such illegal activities.

As concerns grow about the proliferation of harmful content online, platforms like X are increasing their efforts to combat these activities and create a conducive environment for constructive discussion. In response to user complaints, X reported receiving 5,158 complaints from Indian users during the same reporting period. The ban highlights the platform’s prompt and effective grievance-handling mechanism and demonstrates its commitment to quickly resolving user issues.

The report clarified: “We reviewed 86 complaints that appealed account suspensions. All complaints were responded to appropriately. Following review, we overturned the suspension of seven accounts on a case-by-case basis. The remaining reported accounts remain suspended. “

Balance in policy implementation

The report details the platform’s response to user complaints, revealing that it has handled 86 appeals for account suspensions. After a thorough review, 7 of the accounts were suspended, while the remaining reported accounts remain suspended in accordance with X’s policies and guidelines.

Although some bans were overturned, the majority of reported accounts remained banned, reaffirming the company’s commitment to upholding its standards. In addition, X handled 29 general account inquiries during the reporting period, highlighting its active interaction with users in all aspects.
