Officials said Srinagar/Jammu, August 1: The annual Amarnath Yatra was suspended by 3 August on Friday, which is being done after heavy rains on the twin routes of the pilgrimage as “immediate repair and maintenance works” in the interest of the security of pilgrims, after heavy rains on the twin routes of the pilgrimage.

On Friday morning, while the pilgrimage remained suspended from Pahalgam road and any fresh batch of pilgrims was not allowed to move forward in the cave temple, the yatra was allowed by Baltal Marg, he said.

The movement of pilgrims was suspended from the Baghwati Nagar Base Camp in Jammu for the second consecutive day.

“Due to recent heavy rains, repair and maintenance works are required to be launched on the Baltal Axis of Shri Amarnathji Yatra Marg. In the interest of safety of the yatras, no bhitra will be allowed on August 3 from the Baltal Marg,” Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Vijay Kumar Badhuri said.

He said that more updates will be released in time.

Bhiduri said that the travel area has recently received heavy rains on both Pahgam and Baltal Axis, and therefore, after this heavy rains, immediate maintenance works of nature are required on the Baltal Axis after this heavy rains.
The torrential rains in Kashmir made the roads unsafe, after which the pilgrimage on both Baltal and Pahgam was suspended on Wednesday.

The Divisional Commissioner said that the expected repair and maintenance works are already being done on the Pahalgam route of the journey.

On July 17, the yatra was suspended due to heavy rains at the Twin Base Camp in Kashmir.
So far this year, more than 4.05 million Yatris have paid orders in the holy cave temple, he said.

A total of 1,44,124 pilgrims have departed from the Jammu base camp for the valley from July 2, when Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha was first dropped out of the batch.

Last year, more than 5.10 lakh pilgrims paid obedients to the cave temple, in which the ice lingam was naturally formed. (Agencies)
