Chennai, 23 September (IANS) Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President K.K. Selvaparunntagai appealed to the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazgam (DMK) government on Tuesday that it is not allowed not to implement Karbas on the political activities of actor-political victory, which should be allowed for the campaign across the state.
After participating in a signature campaign against the Election Commission of India, while talking to reporters at Sriperumbudur in Kanchipuram district, Selvaparunthgai said that it was undemocratic to issue prohibitory orders or stop Vijay from holding meetings.
He said, “This is a democratic country. Anyone can start a political party and start a campaign anywhere. The government is not an obstacle in their activities. Listen to people what he says and replies accordingly,” he commented.
The TNCC chief also clarified that Vijay had not targeted the Congress in his speeches. He said, “The Congress is not in power at the center or in Tamil Nadu. There is nothing for him to criticize him, and that is why he has not spoken against us,” he said.
Selvaproungthagai rejected it as a misleading step, turning to the Center’s recent decrease in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates.
He argued that the common people did not benefit from the cuts, as domestic savings were shrinking. He said, “Global economists are warning that the Indian economy will have to face further difficult days. It is against the backdrop that the GST rate has come down. The claim that it helps to mislead people,” he said.
On political alliances, the Congress leader ridiculed partnership between AIADMK and BJP, described it as “unnatural combination” rejected by voters.
He said, “No matter how many times they declare unity, people have already refused to accept this alliance. It lacks credibility and public support,” he said.
Selvaperunthagai’s comment gives importance at a time when Vijay’s Tamilga Vatri Kazgam (TVK) is intensifying his state-wide outreach.
The call for TNCC’s untoward election campaign is also seen as an attempt to outline the Congress stand on political freedom, while simultaneously removing themselves from the DMK government sanctions and AIADMK-BJP.
