All about Dali - The ship that destroyed the Baltimore Bridge in the United States

Dali frequently connects Asian ports to the U.S. East Coast

The Dali container ship that caused the collapse of a major bridge in Baltimore was recently built and flew the Singaporean flag.

The ship was built by South Korea’s Hyundai Shipyard in 2015. It is 300 meters (985 feet) long, 48 meters wide, 24.8 meters high, and has a gross tonnage of 95,000 tons. It is a medium-sized container ship.

According to the Marine Traffic website, the ship left the Port of Baltimore at 1 a.m. local time on Tuesday to begin its roughly month-long voyage to Colombo, Sri Lanka. It hit the bridge at 1:28 a.m.

The ship belongs to Singapore-based Grace Ocean Pte Ltd, a Hong Kong-based group that transports containers on behalf of Danish shipping giant Maersk.

Synergy Marine, the Singaporean company that operates the Dali, said the ship was under the control of two Baltimore Port pilots at the time of the accident.

There were 22 crew members on board and no one was injured, according to the Port of Singapore, and Synergy said no leaks were found.

The Dali frequently connects Asian ports with the East Coast of the United States, and passed through the Panama Canal on March 13, calling at New York, Norfolk, and finally Baltimore.

According to the Vessel Finder and Shipwrecklog websites, in 2016, shortly after it was put into operation, the Dali accidentally crashed into the pier of the Port of Antwerp, Belgium.

It can hold up to 8,344 cubic meters (2.2 million gallons) of fuel, according to Marine Traffic. It is underwritten by Britannia in the UK.
