Officers are investigating a serious accident in Whitbi, which sent five people to the hospital late Saturday.
According to Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS), the accident occurred near the intersection of Tuntan Road West and Cocrain Street at around 11:10 pm.
Officials say a white jeep was traveling east on the Wrangler Tunon Road West when it collided with a black Honda SUV which was turning south on Cocrain Street.
The DRP wrote in a press release issued on Sunday, “As a result of the collision, five jeep residents were rushed to the hospital.”
Officials say four of them were taken to a local area hospital with minor injuries. A 39-year-old man from the fifth-living-Oshwa-Ko was taken to a Toronto-Kshetra trauma center, where he lives with serious, deadly injuries.
The driver of Honda was also taken to a local area hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.
The roads in the area were closed for several hours while the crew investigated and approved the debris.
Police say the accident is still under investigation and it is believed that alcohol is a factor of conflict.
No other details were released.
Investigators encourage anyone to contact the police with information.
