New Delhi, Nov 19 (IANS) Following the arrest of Al Falah University founder Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui in a money laundering case linked to terror financing, BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdev on Wednesday criticized the university, saying it was turning into a terrorist university.
JD(U) national spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan commented on the development by highlighting the surprising nature of the university’s alleged links.
He said, “Al-Falah University’s links to white-collar networks were unexpected, but many revelations are likely to come after this arrest. Those involved will be exposed and even doctors may be part of it, which is a matter of concern.”
Meanwhile, JDU spokesperson Neeraj Kumar expressed concern over politicization of the matter. Urging to focus on investigation instead of raising political issues, he said, “The incident in Delhi is extremely worrying for the country. Such incidents are challenging for us. Unfortunately, political investigations have started these days. Political parties should avoid this.”
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday arrested Siddiqui, who is also the chairman of Al Falah Group, under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The arrest followed a detailed investigation and analysis of evidence collected during searches of several premises linked to the Al Falah group.
The ED started the investigation on the basis of two FIRs filed by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police. The FIR alleges that Al Falah University, Faridabad made fraudulent and misleading claims regarding NAAC accreditation to deceive students, parents and stakeholders.
It also made false claim of recognition under Section 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956 with the intention of deceiving the candidates and the general public for wrongful gain.
Authorities have intensified investigation into the university’s finances, operations and possible links to the terror module. Investigators believe the arrest may reveal the extent of any terror-related activities and expose the network allegedly operating within the institution.
Al-Falah Charitable Trust was formed by a public charitable trust deed on September 8, 1995, naming Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui as one of the first trustees and as the managing trustee.
All educational institutions (universities and colleges) are ultimately owned and financially consolidated by this trust, which is effectively controlled by Jawad Ahmed Siddiqui. The entire Al-Falah group has experienced tremendous growth since the 1990s, transforming into a large educational body.
