Jaipur, October 15 (IANS) The ongoing dispute regarding Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Dargah and Sankat Mochan Mahadev Temple in Ajmer took a new turn on Wednesday.
Hindu Sena National President Vishnu Gupta has filed a fresh petition in Ajmer Civil Court (West) No. 1, seeking immediate sealing of the area inside the Dargah complex, where a temple is claimed to be located, along with installation of CCTV cameras to preserve the alleged evidence.
Gupta said in his petition that activities taking place in the disputed area could lead to destruction or tampering of important evidence, which could hamper a fair investigation.
He urged the court to ensure security of that part of the site where, according to him, an image of Lord Shiva is carved on a wall and a Shivalinga is believed to be present.
The next hearing in the case has been fixed for October 17, 2025.
Making a fresh allegation, Vishnu Gupta has accused the Ajmer Dargah Committee of attempting to destroy or damage religious symbols and artefacts under the guise of renovation and repair work.
He claimed that such actions could compromise vital evidence that could help establish the presence of the Sankat Mochan Mahadev temple within the dargah complex.
“The court should take prompt action to prevent destruction of evidence and ensure transparency through CCTV surveillance,” Gupta said in his plea.
The dispute dates back to September 2024, when Vishnu Gupta had initially moved the Ajmer Civil Court, stating that the Sankat Mochan Mahadev Temple existed within the boundaries of the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, one of the most revered Sufi shrines in India.
The earlier petition had named Khawaja Garib Nawaz Dargah Committee, Union Ministry of Minority Affairs and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) as respondents. The matter is under judicial consideration and the new petition has once again increased the sensitivity regarding the matter in Ajmer.
