Ajit Pawar’s son linked to ₹300 crore Pune land scam; Fadnavis ordered a high level investigation

A ₹300 crore land deal in Pune involving a firm linked to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s son Parth Pawar has sparked a major political controversy and prompted the state government to order a high-level inquiry into alleged irregularities.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the allegations as “prima facie serious” and directed officials to submit a detailed report. Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar denied any involvement and said he had “no connection” with the controversial transaction.

The opposition attacked the ruling Mahayuti alliance – which includes the BJP, Ajit Pawar-led NCP and Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena – demanding a judicial inquiry. An FIR has been registered against three persons in the case and the government has suspended a sub-registrar while constituting an inquiry committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Vikas Kharge.

Alleged irregularities in land transfer

According to officials, around 40 acres of government-owned ‘Mahar Watan’ land in Pune’s Mundwa area was sold to Amadiya Enterprises LLP – a firm that reportedly included Parth and his associate Digvijay Amarsingh Patil – for ₹300 crore. The sale reportedly went through Sheetal Tejwani, who had power of attorney on behalf of 272 persons listed on the property.

Despite the land being registered as government property under “Government of Mumbai”, it was sold to the private firm, allegedly bypassing mandatory permissions and waiving stamp duty of ₹5.89 crore. Officials claim that this caused a total loss of ₹6 crore to the state exchequer.

The Inspector General of Registration (IGR) suspended sub-registrar RB Taru, who is accused of registering documents without verifying the required No Objection Certificate (NOC) and accepting only ₹500 in stamp duty.

An FIR filed at Bavdhan police station has named Patil, Tejwani and Taru under provisions of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) for criminal breach of trust and cheating.

Political consequences and reactions

Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, CM Fadnavis confirmed that a departmental inquiry has been ordered. “Prima facie the matter appears to be serious. I have sought details from the departments concerned,” he said.

Ajit Pawar reiterated that he was not involved in this deal. “I have nothing to do with it even remotely. The Chief Minister should investigate it thoroughly. I have always made it clear that I will not tolerate any wrongdoing.”

He said that his son’s business activities were independent. “When your children grow up, they run their own businesses. I have never instructed any official to favor my relatives.”

The registered address of the firm is of a bungalow in Yashwant Ghadge Nagar, Pune, which is reportedly owned by Parth Ajit Pawar.

BJP minister Nitish Rane said CM Fadnavis will ensure “zero tolerance towards corruption”, while Industries Minister Uday Samant defended Parth, saying all the documents of the company are in order.

Opposition demanded judicial inquiry

Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar (Congress) alleged that the land transfer file was processed at “rocket speed”, claiming that within a few hours, the Directorate of Industries approved the transfer for an IT park and data center project while waiving ₹21 crore in stamp duty.

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray rejected the state investigation, saying it would “end with a clean chit” to those involved.

The inquiry committee led by ACS Vikas Kharge is expected to verify how the government land was transferred and whether exemptions and waivers were given legally.
