AISF MLA Calcutta files pilot on HC on the deaths of electrocution in Kolkata

Kolkata, 24 September (IANS) Navsad Siddiq, who is a representative of the Loan All India Secular Front (AIFF), filed a public interest litigation (PLI) in the Calcutta High Court on several electrocution deaths in Kolkata on Tuesday on Tuesday.

A total of 10 persons were reported dead in and around Kolkata on Tuesday after coming in contact with the naked wires submerged in rain water after heavy rains overnight.

In his gene, Siddiq sought compensation for family members of those killed in electrocution.

He also said why the deaths due to such electrocution have become a common and recurring factors in Kolkata whenever the city street information occurs due to rain.

The petition has been accepted. The case is expected to come to the division bench of Calcutta High Court of Justice Sujay Paul and Justice Smita Das Dey on Thursday on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee blamed Sanjeev Goenka-owned private power generation-distribution utility, CESC Limited for electrocution deaths and also said that the management of electricity utility should compensate the victim’s family members and also provide jobs to at least one member of the family.

In addition to power generation, CESC is responsible for electricity distribution in the district around Kolkata and Howrah, and for these two districts, the unit enjoys total distribution monopoly.

The Chief Minister claimed that despite receiving rich benefits from West Bengal, the CESC management did not focus on modernization activities in West Bengal. He accused the CESC management of repeatedly ignoring his precautions in this matter.

On Tuesday night, a senior CESC official issued a statement, claiming that the deaths of eight electrocution in the city, five wiring issues occurred inside the houses of the victims.

“There have been two cases due to touching the street light post, which is usually not maintained by CESC. A signal happened on the kiosk. We will be more alert so that such incidents do not happen next time, ‘read the CESC statement.
