The petitioners in the case are Pushkarraj, father of Air India pilot Sumeet Sabharwal, Federation of Indian Pilots and an NGO, Safety Matters Foundation. He has again put forward his demand in the court for a Court of Inquiry to monitor the investigation into the Air India AI171 crash.
The petitioners claimed that according to government rules, it is mandatory to conduct investigation in the court. He claimed that international conventions were not followed in the case. A London-bound Air India plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12, killing at least 270 people.
The petitioners told the top court that the pilots’ association has highlighted safety concerns of the Boeing 787-8s, arguing that passengers are at risk.
The Center has clarified that the interim report of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is not incriminating the pilots and said the Civil Aviation Ministry has already issued a statement.
The Center has cautioned that any interference will be counterproductive to the investigation and said there is no need to create panic.
