After allegations of betting and match-fixing in the Delhi Premier League surfaced, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Tuesday launched investigations in various cities of the country with the help of government agencies to get to the root of the menace. Suspicions of betting and match-fixing came to light in a Delhi League match on Monday when Ahbab FC, who were winning 4-0, conceded two suspicious-looking suicide goals late in the match against Rangers FC. Ahbab FC won the match 4-2.

Video footage of the two suicide goals went viral, following which the AIFF on Tuesday summoned Football Delhi chief Anuj Gupta to seek details of the suspicious match and serve him a notice.

AIFF President Kalyan Choubey said he will approach the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to investigate and get to the root of the betting syndicate.

In a release issued by AIFF, Choubey said, “Our investigation will not be limited to Delhi. We have reason to believe through evidence such practice is prevalent in other cities as well and we will be using a wide network for our investigation.” will build.”

On the specific allegations related to the Delhi match, the national federation said, “The AIFF today sent an email notice to the Delhi Soccer Association seeking clarification on the incident related to the 19 February 2024 match under the Delhi Premier League.

“AIFF officials led by its President Mr. Kalyan Choubey held an emergency meeting today, in which DSA President Anuj Gupta was called to inquire details of the incident and the host association’s stand on the issue.” Choubey said that AIFF will not limit its investigation to just one match. “A lot of incremental evidence has been found that casts serious doubt on the entire league,” he said.

“I will meet the Joint Commissioner of Police, Anti Corruption Bureau to help us investigate this thoroughly and get to the root of this syndicate. DSA has been advised to file an FIR immediately.” Gupta said Football Delhi’s emergency executive has suspended Ahbab FC with immediate effect until further notice, while Delhi Premier League sub-committee chairman Rizwan Ul Haq will also be sent a show cause notice.

He said Football Delhi will also file a complaint with the Delhi Police to investigate any “match fixing” in the Delhi Premier League.

“…multiple allegations of anti-sporting behavior have been leveled against our association for the recently concluded Delhi Premier League 2023/24,” Gupta said in a statement.

“As the governing body of football in the national capital, we must take a strong stand against the allegations… Strict action against any such incidents is vital for the development of football in Delhi.”
