Chennai, Nov 20 (IANS) The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has announced a major protest in Kallakurichi district, accusing the MK Stalin-led DMK government of massive administrative lapses, abuse of authority and poor implementation of public welfare schemes.
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. In a strong statement issued by Palaniswami, the opposition leader alleged that important government departments including the Highways Department, Public Works Department (PWD), and Rural Development Department are carrying out welfare and infrastructure works in the district in a shoddy, negligent manner.
He alleged that the quality of ongoing projects under the DMK regime has declined rapidly, leaving the local communities disappointed.
Palaniswami further accused the state government of abusing its power during the ongoing Special Summary Revision (SSR) voter verification process.
He alleged that polling station level officials engaged in the verification operation are being intimidated and pressurized, thereby creating an atmosphere of fear and damaging the integrity of the voter list update.
According to him, the DMK government is turning a blind eye to the many irregularities and complaints raised during this process. To “expose and protest” the anti-democratic functioning of the DMK, the AIADMK announced that it will hold a massive protest near the statue of Dr. BR Ambedkar on Kacheri Road in Kallakurichi Municipality on Friday at 10 am.
The protest will be led by former MLA and district secretary I. Kumaraguru. AIADMK district officials, office-bearers of party-affiliated organizations, sitting and former MLAs and MPs, local body representatives, former cooperative society officials and workers from all units of Kallakurichi district are expected to participate in large numbers.
The party has also urged the general public to join the protests to express their concern over the administrative failures of the government. The AIADMK leadership claims that public discontent is growing in the region, and the protests aim to highlight these issues while demanding accountability from the ruling government.
With just a few months left for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the protest is expected to prove to be a significant moment in the political mobilization of the district. The party has stressed that Friday’s protest will be a show of strength against the DMK government’s “mismanagement, threats and abuse of authority”, calling on workers to participate in large numbers to make the event a success.
