Bareilly, Nov 18 (IANS) Days after the Delhi blasts, a self-recorded video of i20 car driver Dr Umar Mohammed surfaced in which he attempted to justify his plan and called it a “martyrdom operation”.

In response, Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, national president of All India Muslim Jamaat, said on Tuesday that such justification is against the basic beliefs of Islam.

Speaking to IANS, Maulana Shahabuddin said, “Dr Umar Mohammed, who had links to terrorism and killed himself, is an accused in this case. The way his video has come out and the way he has tried to justify the suicide bombing is against the core beliefs of Islam. This is completely wrong and no one can support it.”

He said, “Terrorism is not a part of Islam. Islam does not allow murder. The Quran says that killing one person is equivalent to killing the entire humanity. Dr. Omar has violated this principle. What he has done is against the fundamental beliefs of Islam. Islam also forbids taking anyone’s life. It does not allow anyone to kill others, kill oneself or incite such actions. Islam talks about humanity and peace. Such actions are ‘haram’ in Islam.” are (prohibited).”

Earlier in the day, in a highly accented video, Dr Omar attempts to give a religious connection to his terror plan.

He is heard saying, “One of the very misunderstood concepts is the concept of suicide bombing; it is a martyrdom operation, as it is known in Islam…Many contradictions and arguments have been brought against it – a martyrdom operation.”

He further explained that “martyrdom operation” occurs when a person assumes that he is definitely going to die at a particular place and time.

His video revealed the suicide bombing mindset, which suggests that he had planned a large-scale terror operation.

According to sources, officials believe that Dr. Omar, one of the main accused in the terror module, had made this video to brainwash people.

At least 13 people lost their lives and several others were injured in a car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort metro station on November 10. The car was being driven by Dr. Umar, a doctor associated with Al Falah University, Faridabad.

Dr. Umar was originally a resident of Koil village of Pulwama. His family members have described him as a reserved and introverted person who preferred solitude and devoted much of his time to reading.

However, police reports indicate that Dr Omar’s behavior had changed in recent months. He was absent from his university responsibilities from 30 October and began making frequent trips between Faridabad and Delhi, visiting mosques near Ramlila Maidan and Sunehri Masjid.

Officials said he went missing after a police raid in Faridabad on November 9, which resulted in the seizure of about 2,900 kg of ammonium nitrate from a storage facility and the arrest of several of his associates.

During investigation, law enforcement found that Umar and Dr. Muzammil, who were captured after police dismantled the terror network, had traveled to Turkey, where their handlers are believed to be based.
