Kolkata, in view of the death of a female student, 17 September (IANS), Jadavpur University officials have taken an initiative to cut the bushes in the campus.
This step came after complaints that students consume alcohol behind such bushes, which sometimes leads to unpleasant incidents.
The university has invited tenders to clean the waste and trim the bushes.
Tenders have been called to clean shrubs and waste. The last date for depositing tenders is 22 September. After that, work will begin inside the campus.
On September 11, the body of a female student was recovered from a water body in the Jadavpur University campus. The victim was a third year student in English literature at the university.
After the tragic death of a female student on the campus, Jadavpur University officials tightened security and imposed several restrictions for students and outsiders.
A senior university official said, “The campus needs cleanliness. The bushes need to be cut and the garbage must be removed from the premises.”
Jadavpur University officials have decided to close the water bodies within the campus to prevent future incidents. It was further emphasized that steps should be taken to increase security in the campus.
Zoo Pro Vice Chancellor Amitawawa Dutta said: “We are forming a committee that will prepare a regulation on the rules and restrictions of various university programs. University officials will keep an eye on it so that they are followed properly. There is also a need to increase the number of security guards in the university campus. It was also decided to close the water body within the premises.”
He also said that the university is waiting for the appointment of an Vice Chancellor. Dutta said, “Only after the appointment of the Vice Chancellor, we will be able to hold executive meetings and approve these decisions. If the Vice Chancellor is appointed, quick action can be taken to fill the vacant posts of the university,” said Dutta.
