Ipswich Based businessman John Howard, who was the president of the Ipswich Conservative Association for a decade, put himself forward to move forward Tory candidates for Norfolk and Safok’s Mayor Next year.
The property developer, who is a famous person in the local media, believed that his business skills and experience as an active member of the party made him a strong contender for the shortlist.
But after an interview with a panel of two evaluators, which included the head of the Baronic May husband Sir Philip and the candidate committee Claire Hambro, he was rejected from a shortlist of five.
Mr. Howard told Independent This rejection was a “last straw” for him, who was “trying to protect uncertain” over the last five years as a Tory member, and he has now blamed for improvement.
He said: “I have been trying to protect uncertain for the last five years.
“Applying to be a candidate for the mayor was the last straw that really made me realize that the Conservative Party does not listen to the ground level.
“I am really combining all reform policies because most of the Tory members have to be quite honest. And I think more and more are waking up to this point that really improvement is the future party.”
He described his conversation with Sir Philip and Ms. Hamo as “very pleasant”, saying: “I don’t know if they were to veto me.”
But a senior Tory Sutra said: “I am difficult to understand why a strong business background, good media artist and a candidate with strong local routes will be rejected by hand. The party has not learned from its failures that have brought us to the point of extinction.
“The problem is that they want candidates who have no personality and they cannot think for themselves.”
It is understood that Sir Philip only acts as an evaluator for candidates, and is not on the committee that decides shortlists and fingers.
A conservative spokesperson refused to comment on the selection process and said that its candidate would be announced for the mayor of Norfolk and Safok.
Another Tory Sutra said that Mr. Howard had failed his assessment center qualification works.
