New Delhi, Nov 18 (IANS) The central government on Tuesday issued an advisory to all private satellite television channels to exercise restraint while broadcasting news related to the attack on Delhi’s Red Fort.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in its advisory said that it has come to its notice that some news channels are airing content related to alleged persons involved in the Red Fort blasts, justifying their acts of violence, as well as videos containing information on how to make explosive materials.
The advisory also states that such broadcasts may inadvertently encourage or incite violence, disrupt public order and pose a threat to national security.
It said all television channels are advised to exercise the highest level of discretion and sensitivity while reporting on such matters.
“Broadcasters must ensure strict compliance with the program and advertising code under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995. Such broadcasts may violate the Cable Television Networks Rules, particularly Rules 6(1)(d), 6(1)(e), and 6(l)(h).”
After the Delhi Red Fort blast carried out by Jaish-e-Mohammed module in Faridabad, intelligence agencies are keeping an eye on online propaganda material.
During various security review meetings, top officials have suggested that it is important to monitor news flow as well as promotional material being circulated online.
Many Pakistan-based social media accounts are spreading fake news online with the intention of radicalizing Indian youth.
They use clips from selected television channels to present a fake story.
The Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) is considering carrying out a massive recruitment drive across the country and setting up modules similar to those present in Faridabad.
The investigation into the Delhi blasts is ongoing and it has come to light that it was the Faridabad module of Jaish-e-Mohammed that carried out the attack that claimed more than 13 human lives.
