New Delhi: Grand alliance’s deputy chief ministerial candidate and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahni has said that if the grand alliance government comes to power in Bihar, it will review and amend the existing prohibition policy.
Sahni said on Wednesday, “After our government is formed, we will restart ‘toddy’. Prohibition in Bihar was for the welfare of the people and it was expected to benefit them, but it did not succeed. The government should review how much loss it is causing to the state… When our government comes to power, we will review it.”
The VIP leader stressed that the prohibition implemented nearly a decade ago failed to achieve its stated social goals and instead led to massive economic losses and enforcement problems.
He argued that rethinking the policy was necessary both for social balance and the revival of rural livelihoods linked to toddy exploitation.
Sahni firmly asked the NDA’s CM face for the upcoming Bihar elections, “Organize a press conference and make the announcement. In Maharashtra he was contesting in the name of Eknath Shinde, but was finally dropped…”
In another sharp political statement, Sahni reflected on the idea of people’s leadership, citing the legacy of socialist icon Karpoori Thakur. “A true Jannayak is not born, he becomes a Jannayak by his deeds. Our Karpoori Thakur became a Jannayak by his deeds. And certainly, in this country, every son can become a Jannayak by his deeds. It is not that once one becomes a Jannayak, no one else can become one, this is wrong…”
“Tejashwi Yadav can also become a public hero in the future, Rahul Gandhi can also become one and you too can become one, as long as you follow that path,” he said to loud applause from the crowd.
Sahni’s comments, coming amid a vigorous campaign by the grand alliance, underline the alliance’s effort to blend the politics of social justice with policy modification and grassroots engagement.
Bihar Assembly elections are scheduled to be held on November 6 and 11 and the results will be declared on November 14.
