After PM Modi, CR Park on Maha Ashtami offers prayers in black turn, BJP leaders halted PM’s ‘historic visit’

New Delhi, 30 September (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited the Kali Bari temple at Chittaranjan Park (CR Park) in Delhi to attend the Durga Puja festival on the occasion of Maha Ashtami.

The visit attracted extensive attention as the Prime Minister performed rituals with devotion, which highlights the cultural significance of the prestigious temple which has long been associated with Bengali traditions in the capital.

BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, who was present, said, “You all very happy Durga Ashtami! Today, Honorable Prime Minister arrived at CR Park. He visited Kali Ma temple and first performed puja and rituals, receiving the blessings of Goddess and participated in the puja.”

Echoing similar feelings, BJP MLA from Greater Kailash, Shikha Rai commented, “The Prime Minister had visited the Kali Bari temple. He could go anywhere, but the goddess called her here, which I believe that we all show her divine grains. Today, she, without being present about any other incident.”

Secretary of the temple committee, Dr. Rajiv expressed pride in the smooth conduct of the incident. “It was very good and gone very smoothly. It’s the main thing for us – the arrangements were excellent, and he came with devotion. It is an honor for us that the Prime Minister visited,” he said.

The priest who operates the rituals, Dr. Ranjit Kumar Pahdi said, “He (PM Modi) himself performed the Aarti of Goddess.”

Later, in a post on X, Prime Minister Modi said, “Today, on the auspicious day of Maha Ashtami, I went to Durga Puja at Chittaranjan Park in Delhi. Chittaranjan Park is deeply associated with Bengali culture.
